The Journal uses double-blind peer review as the primary method of selection of articles, which can be waived only in exceptional cases and giving notice of it at the time of publication. The rules relating to the review process are presented in this document.

The Journal promotes research independence, condemns plagiarism and copyright infringement, requests and promotes the publication of original contributions based on rigorous data, takes action to correct errors in published articles.

Publication frequency

The Journal publishes three issues per year.

Section Policies

This journal operates a double anonymized review process. All contributions will be initially assessed by the editor for suitability for the journal. Papers deemed suitable are then typically sent to a minimum of two independent expert reviewers to assess the scientific quality of the paper. The Editor is responsible for the final decision regarding acceptance or rejection of articles. The Editor's decision is final. Editors are not involved in decisions about papers which they have written themselves or have been written by family members or colleagues or which relate to products or services in which the editor has an interest. Any such submission is subject to all of the journal's usual procedures, with peer review handled independently of the relevant editor and their research groups.

After the submission

Articles are first reviewed internally by the respective acting editor (Editor-in-Chief or Associate Editor). If the article fulfils the submission requirements, then an anonymised version is sent to two external reviewers. The peer-review process is overseen by the acting editor, and if necessary (e.g. in case of dispute between reviewers), the acting editor consults a member of the advisory editorial board.
This journal uses double anonymised review, meaning the authors' identities are concealed from the reviewers, and vice versa. To facilitate this, the Editorial Staff ensures that the submitted manuscripts are thoroughly anonymised by the Associate Editor and uploaded on the OJS system before being sent to peer review.

Reviewers are required to evaluate the article normally within 20-30 days. As soon as they provide their feedback, the acting editor produces a report enclosing the editors' and reviewers’ comments and outlining the next steps for the authors. If reviewers require minor or major revisions, then the remaining review process carries on only in collaboration with the Associate Editor, who ensures that all necessary amendments are addressed in the revised submission of the article.

Once a manuscript is accepted for publication, it is proofread by the Linguistic Editor and is copy-edited. A final proof copy is sent to the authors giving the opportunity for a final check prior to its publication. Authors are expected to return their final proof comments within 7 days.

This journal focuses on the concept of design and its relevance to a diverse audience consisting of design researchers, educators, and practitioners. We encourage the submission of original, scientific, and scholarly research papers that explore various aspects of the design process or contribute to the advancement and practical application of new knowledge in this field.

The papers should be written in a way that can be easily understood and relevant to a wide range of readers from different design domains. In order to be suitable for publication in this journal, a paper should provide fresh insights or knowledge about the design process or contribute to developing new designing processes.

Prior to submitting your paper, please ensure that your topic and study align with the goals and scope of the journal.

Conversation Pieces/Interviews (15,000-25,000 characters)

A Conversation piece or interview should primarily focus on thought-provoking and engaging topics within the realm of design. Conversation pieces can delve into emerging trends, ethical considerations, social impact, or philosophical aspects of design. These publications should aim to spark intellectual curiosity, encourage dialogue, and inspire new perspectives and approaches in the field of design.

Reportages (7,000-15,000 characters)

For reportages and case study papers, it is recommended to adhere to the guidelines outlined for research papers, exhibiting a similar level of academic rigour. However, these papers should centre on specific instances of designing, delving deeper into particular cases. Case studies must offer fresh perspectives or knowledge concerning the design process and should be grounded in relevant theories and literature, including those previously published in the journal. Multimedia and innovative publications are welcomed.
